PHSM CURRICULUM

PHSM has been designed and developed as a safe place where students from diverse backgrounds can discover identity in Christ in connection with God’s plan for His Kingdom on Earth. Students are coached and encouraged along their journey in a one, two or three year program through immersion, instruction and hands on ministry experience.

YEAR ONE - CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Discovering Discipleship (DD1)

Year 1 - Quarter 1

Discovering Discipleship establishes the biblical foundation for understanding what it means to be and live as a disciple of Christ from a Kingdom perspective. 

Old Testament Survey (OTS 1)

Year 1 - Quarter 1

______

The History Books Old Testament Survey (1) focuses on history books to teach that God, from the beginning, was a God of relationship. 

Old Testament Survey (OTS 2)

Year 1 - Quarter 2

This section of Old Testament Survey class will guide students through a  study of the remaining books of the OT to introduce the spiritual and practical application of these diverse works.

Understanding the Bible (UTB)

Year 1 - Quarter 2

Understanding the Bible teaches foundational concepts and principles to help students rightly divide scripture. Students explore topics such as the uniqueness of scripture, how the Bible came to exist, and why God gave us His Word.

New Testament Survey (NTS)

Year 1 - Quarter 3

New Testament Survey presents an overview of the life and ministry of Jesus, the Christ as He ushered in the “Kingdom of God.”

Who I am in Christ (WIAIC)

Year 1 - Quarter 3

In this course, you will be learning where your identity is centered by digging deeply into the Bible to find who God declared you to be. In order to follow Jesus as His disciple, you have to see Him as He truly is.

Basics of Theology (BOT)

Year 1 - Quarter 4

Theology will introduce students to the exciting pursuit of growing in the knowledge and love of God through both intellectual and personal discovery. The primary focus will be on the fundamentals of Christian Theology, dealing with the essential elements that make Christianity the unique faith and form of worship that it is compared to other religions and forms of worship. Students will learn concepts of world-views and how theology interacts with varying world-views and learn to analyze their own theology and its roots.


Revelation (REV)

Year 1 - Quarter 4

The Book of Revelation course helps students engage this prophetic work as the final revelation of Christ as Lion, Lamb, King and God.

YEAR TWO - CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Life in the Spirit (LITS)

Year 2 - Quarter 1

This course is purposed and designed to restore truth to the discussion and study of gifts including 5 fold ministry.This course will cover practical application of living connected to Spirit.  From this foundation and perspective, students will examine the expressions of the gifts in and for their kingdom purpose.

Worldview, Culture, and Apologetics (WCA)

Year 2 - Quarter 1

This class will lead students into a greater understanding of what a worldview is, what the Christian Biblical worldview is and how it answers the four questions of all human life. Students will also engage in current issues of the Western world culture and how with love, wisdom and in peace, they can give the reason for their hope and faith in a world in crisis. 

Discovering Discipleship 2 (DD2)

Year 2 - Quarter 2

The Discovering Discipleship 2 course is fundamental to the mission of PHSM to equip students to make Kingdom disciples. The goal of the course is to prepare you to be a companion to those whom the Lord will give you along this amazing journey of formation into the likeness of Christ.

Global Church History (GCH)

Year 2 - Quarter 2

 The focus of this class will be teaching the students the history of Christianity from the perspective of the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The class will conclude with a focus on the reformation that gave birth to the protestant church.

Revival History (RH)|

Year 2 - Quarter 3

______

This class will be a survey of major revival movements throughout western Christianity specifically. This class will lean heavily on the book of Joel (ch. 1-3) as it lays out a biblical understanding of what revival is, what precedes it and the effects it has not just on individual human souls but on communities and even the physical earth.

Student Ministry Rotation / Internship:

Year 2 - Quarters 2 and 3

In place of a traditional course, students will take a behind-the-scenes look into eight designated departments of PH. The purpose of this rotation is to give you an introduction to the leadership roles of the various departments of the local church. This experience is designed to help you discern the exact area of ministry you are or are not called to.

Community Transformation (CT)

Year 2 - Quarter 4

The Community Transformation class will address the reality that intentionally seeking and pursuing the holistic transformation of the community is the primary responsibility of the local church.  In this class God’s heart for the city will be laid out as His sons and daughters partner with His vision for His Kingdom to be made manifest in the earth one community at a time.

Shaped for Ministry (SFM) Practical Ministry 

Year 2 - Quarter 4

This course will begin to prepare students to prepare a 3 year plan for their walk into ministry.  While many may wish to be launched right away, understanding the process, preparing the way and honing the gifts and skills necessary as well as preparing for a long-term internship are necessary.  Ethics, integrity, importance of the word, and the necessity of humility are key components.  This course will be taught by a variety of staff and/or other trusted members of the Body.
